Things to Laugh About in Newcastle United’s History

Good or bad, Newcastle United is always in the news headlines.

Rafa Benitez is the current manager of Newcastle United and he is one of the best managers in Europe today. And at present, it seems that everything is going to be fine. With this, fans can simply look back at the life of Newcastle United and laugh at some of the catastrophe’s that the team has gone through. Fans must surely remember some, if not all, of these funny events.

Alan Pardew is not new to the headlines; he has been in it many times in the past. It is not only Pardew’s brilliant deeds that made the headlines, but even the dreadful and the downright hilarious ones. Although many fans already see Pardew as a very controversial kind of fellow, he really outdid himself in this particular event. It was the match with Hull City when Pardew head-butter Hull midfielder David Meyler. It was a rather expensive head butt which cost him a fine of ?100,000 by Newcastle United, and ?60,000 by the FA.

One of the football lols of Premier League’s history was when two players of their team squared up, which happened to Lee Bowyer and Kierton Dyer. The normal thing is that players of one team square up with players of the opposing team. Opposing players frequently fight with each other. It was funny to watch since, at the time, Dyer and Bowyer both belonged to the Toon Army. After the fight, the two players received red cards from being violent. If it wasn’t bad enough, the team lost to Aston Villa at home with a score of 3 – 0.

Newcastle United fans know that it is an unthinkable thing to lose to Sunderland at home. But it did happen and with a crushing 3 – 0 defeat at that. However, there was one fan who took the loss seriously and vented all his anger at a poor horse called Bud. Barry Rogerson, the fan, 45 years old, proceeded to taunt that horse and punched its head. He was then sentenced to a year in jail for this stupid actions. The humiliation from this event will follow him for the rest of his life.

Truth be told, Newcastle United has had some very poor managers in their time, but Joe Kinnear is pretty much the worst. Kinnear’s career had so many funny moments although during those times, it was really quite terrible. Trying to sign is his own player was the funniest of them all. This happened when Kinnear attended a League Cup game between Swansea and Birmingham. Shane Ferguson, a Newcastle player, was then on loan with the Brummies. It was a great game that he play where he dominated the midfield. Kinnear then noticing this commented that he was going to sign the player. At first, the press thought he was making a joke, only to find out that he didn’t know that Ferguson was one of his players at Newcastle. What a funny moment!…
